Barry L Shoop

Candidate for 2016 IEEE President

Friends and Colleagues,

I am both honored and humbled to be nominated by the IEEE Board of Directors as a candidate for IEEE President.

I have been a member of IEEE for nearly 36 years and an IEEE volunteer leader for over 28 years. Over this period, I have served in a number of key leadership roles including Vice-President of Member and Geographic Activities, IEEE Secretary, Director of Region 1, and a member of the Fellows Committee, to name just a few. Additionally, I have leadership experience in other professional societies including the OSA, SPIE, and ABET. I have been a member of the faculty of West Point, the first engineering school in the United States and a premiere leadership institution, for over 20 years and also have practitioner experience as a satellite communication engineer and the chief scientist for a $4.5B organization dedicated to solving the improvised explosive device problem worldwide.

In this web site you will find information about my candidacy including my qualifications, accomplishments as well as my thoughts on the future of the IEEE.

A common theme you will find is that I am absolutely committed to members' professional lives and passionate about providing increased value for our members, our profession and the public. My guiding tenets are: strategic focus, teamwork and communication, sound financial models, value of membership, appreciation for volunteers, and value to our profession.

I will be grateful to receive your support in this election, and I welcome your questions, comments and suggestions. Please feel free to share them with me at
